19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

His retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
